The committee has had five meetings in the past year. During this year, several members left, and efforts have been made to replace them. Recently two new members joined the committee, leaving one vacancy (to be filled by an APSA Board Member).
The JUAC (Joint University Association Committee) is the body responsible for discussing and negotiating changes to non-monetary University policies which affect APSA members, and is composed of 3 University reps and 3 UAC reps. The JUAC has not met during the past year, however two long-outstanding items from the University remain on the table (Probation Policy, Parental Leave Policy).
The UAC has now finalized a response to the University on Parental Leave and will present this at the next JUAC meeting. A response for the JUAC on the Probation Policy is in preparation and will be considered by the UAC at its next meeting (in December), with a view to bringing this forward as well at the next JUAC meeting. Note that policy changes negotiated at JUAC must go to the APSA Board of Directors for approval before they are finalized.
Several new concerns have been raised by members this year, mostly related to how policies are interpreted, implemented, and enforced. The UAC reviewed the matters and where appropriate, made enquiries of the administration, in an effort to decide if there is anything that should be followed up by JUAC or other means. Informal discussion continues on some matters, but no policy-change suggestions have been generated by either side yet.
