As year end approaches, so does the December 31, 2011 deadline for the reimbursement of PD
expenses, vacation carry over and transit pass renewal.
Professional Development (PD) Expenses
Before you submit your expenses, remember:
- To fill out and submit the reimbursement for PD expense form.
- Any unused personal PD funds in a calendar year may be carried forward to the next year. However, a member's PD entitlement cannot be greater than $2,100 total.
- Your PD balance is listed on My SFU > About me > Staff Resources > Professional Development Expenses.
- Check out eligible and ineligible items, what receipts are needed to submit expenses and entitlement amounts in, Reimbursement for Professional Development Expenses.
- Eligible invoices that were not fully covered can be "re-used" for the remaining amount in the subsequent year. The original receipt must be submitted so ensure it is returned to you.
- Human Resources may request a written rationale for your
professional development reimbursement request.
The purpose of your expense should demonstrate benefit to SFU in the form of a better trained, better functioning employee by improvement or development of knowledge and skills to do the current job or a future job.
Inquires about appropriate expenses and procedures to:
Cookie Purewal, Human Resources, cpurewal@sfu.ca, extension 2.5662.
Vacation Entitlement
Unused vacation from 2011 will be automatically carried over to 2012. But, before you dream about next year's vacation destination, keep in mind:
- Members can carry over only one year's worth of vacation entitlement (i.e. 2011 entitlement can be carried over to 2012).
- Check your remaining vacation entitlement at My Info: http://myinfo.sfu.ca > Payroll and Compensation Home > View Balances.
Renewal of TransLink Passes
Transit passes expire on December 31 and the new 2012 passes
will arrive in mid December. If you are a member of the Employer Pass Program,
your new pass will automatically be mailed to your office address and you
will be notified by email. Note, you are no longer required to
mail in your old pass.
